MCP: your CHBT bot in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a way to give your AI assistant access to a service. Connect CHBT and ask Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor in plain words: “How many leads this week?”, “Who is waiting for an answer?”, “Tell Marina her order arrives on Thursday”. The AI uses the same token as the API and sees only this bot.

Step 1. Issue a token

In the bot’s dashboard, open “Integrations and APIs” → “API tokens” → “Issue a token” and label it, for example “Claude”. The token is shown once, so copy it right away. The bot’s owner and admins can issue tokens.

Step 2. Add the server to your AI

Server address: https://app.chbt.io/mcp, transport: HTTP, token in the Authorization: Bearer <token> header.

  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http chbt https://app.chbt.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"
  • Cursor: in the MCP settings, add a server with a url field set to the address above and headers with the same header.
  • Claude and ChatGPT in the browser and apps: add a custom connector at https://app.chbt.io/mcp/<token>; this passes the token in the address when you cannot set a header. Where custom connectors are enabled depends on your Claude or ChatGPT plan.

Keep the address with the token as safe as a password. If it leaks, revoke the token in “API tokens” and issue a new one.

What the AI can do over MCP

ToolWhat it does
get_statsSummary for 1–90 days: conversations, inbound messages, new leads, who is waiting for an operator
list_leadsLeads: customers who left a phone number or email
list_conversationsConversations by status: with the bot, with AI, waiting for an operator, closed
get_messagesA conversation’s messages
send_replyReply to the customer in their messenger on behalf of an operator; the bot goes quiet in that conversation
handoff_to_operatorHand the conversation to an operator
close_conversationClose the conversation
list_flowsList of flows and whether they are on

The send_reply tool asks the AI to show you the reply text first, so check it before sending. A reply from the AI behaves like an operator’s reply: it appears in “Conversations” and goes to the channel the customer wrote from.

What MCP does not do

  • It does not change flows, channels, contacts or the plan; it only reads the list of flows.
  • It does not message first anyone who has not written to the bot, and it does not reply in a closed conversation.
  • One token, one bot. For several bots, add several servers.
  • The limit is the same as the API’s: 120 requests per minute per token.

FAQ

Do I need a paid plan?
No. MCP and API tokens work on any CHBT plan. The Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor subscription itself is on their side.

Can the AI see data from other bots?
No. A token is issued for one bot, and all tools work only with it.

How is MCP different from the API?
The API is for programs: your CRM or helpdesk. MCP is for an AI assistant: it picks the right tool for your question. Under the hood, it is the same methods and the same token.
